Reconstruction denotes rebuilding something that is in a state of disrepair or tearing something down and rebuilding it. If we view the process as one of construction then what is being constructed is something that is a work in progress. The metaphor appears appropriate. What occurs is the individual is drawn back to strengthening the foundation before building upon it. Where the foundation is unsound the balance of the construct is weak until the foundation is shored up. The entire process nevertheless is one of ongoing construction, not recovery and not reconstruction.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2894514913516471357.post-20722928262700325232011-04-25T04:02:11.409-07:002011-04-25T04:02:11.409-07:00The concept of reconstruction versus recovery is a...The concept of reconstruction versus recovery is appropriate. Reconstruction, as I see it, suggests the ability to distinguish and pursue possibility.

The influences of one's past can be an impediment to the pursuit of possibility and the reconstructive process. It would not be a matter of recovering from these past influences but rather becoming complete with them and moving beyond them. It requires self examination, the will and desire to accept responsibility, reconciliation (not necessarily with someone else or some place or event but rather self reconciliation) and the ability to accept one's self as a unique, creative, and valued person' even if everyone else around you has been attempting to fit you into a box that suggests you are flawed, broken, or a social misfit.

The process is not one that sets forth to fix that which is wrong with you. It begins with the premise that there is nothing wrong with you, there is nothing wrong with me, and there is nothing wrong with the occurring world. It is. I am. We are. There are no descriptors or judgments required beyond this. What one wishes to move beyond, to acquire completion with, and to pursue as possibility are within the distinction of personal choice, self fulfilment, personal gratification, and individual moral purpose.

The mental process we refer to as psychosis may be aimed at distinguishing completion and defining possibility. Certainly it is one that is creative and insightful if we avoid the propensity to interrupt it with neuroleptic tranquilizers, or to look beyond our own fears in an objective evaluation of what it represents and what constructive possibilities it may offer.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2894514913516471357.post-61746462073381521382011-04-21T10:13:24.665-07:002011-04-21T10:13:24.665-07:00Thanks so much for sharing this - I'd read som...Thanks so much for sharing this - I'd read some of SkyBlue's more recent blog, but not this one. And my overall response is...yes, exactly! This is about the most succinct description I've seen, and for me, it hits the nail on the head.

"The progression of illness itself is the actual cure, the psyche needs to break and reform. This is a natural process which needs to be assisted not interfered with nor prevented."

I don't want to go back to who I was nor what I was doing...I was interrupted for a reason. It took several tries and increasingly violent interruptions, but I finally got the picture! And, indeed, the process began when I was 31.

Sending peaceful vibes to Chris on his journey.Nataliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04773187914462373018noreply@blogger.com
